SBU Drones Strike Russian Oil Pumping Station Near Perm, Over 1,500 km from Ukraine

Reflecto News | Ukraine-Russia War | Long-Range Strikes

KYIV — The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a successful drone strike on a strategic oil pumping station near the Russian city of Perm, located over 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, causing a massive fire that engulfed almost all oil storage tanks at the facility .

The operation, carried out by the SBU Alfa Special Operations Centre, targeted the Perm Linear Production and Dispatch Station (LPD). The facility belongs to Transneft JSC and serves as a critical hub in Russia’s main oil transportation system, distributing oil in four directions, including to the Perm Oil Refinery .

🔥 ‘Nearly All Storage Tanks on Fire’

According to the SBU, the drone attack triggered a “large-scale fire” at the oil pumping station. Preliminary reports indicate that nearly all of the station’s oil storage tanks were ablaze following the strike . Russian local Telegram channels reported that an “accident involving the release of a hazardous substance” occurred at the facility .

The SBU has officially confirmed the operation, with acting head Yevheniy Khmara stating:

“The SSU is systematically reducing russia’s export potential and undermining its economic foundation, which finances the war against Ukraine. Damage to oil logistics creates a shortage of resources for the russian military-industrial complex, disrupts fuel supply chains for the army, and forces the enemy to spend significant resources on restoring and protecting oil infrastructure.”

📍 Follow-Up Strikes Reported

Local sources reported that explosions continued in Perm for a second day. On April 30, another explosion occurred in the city, and authorities announced an air raid alert in the Perm region . Videos shared by residents show a characteristic white mushroom cloud of smoke rising over the city following what appears to be a repeat strike on the same or nearby facility . The fire at the site reportedly lasted at least a day .

Russian authorities have acknowledged drone activity in the region. Perm Governor Dmitry Makhonin initially stated only that a drone had hit an “unspecified industrial facility” sparking a fire . Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses intercepted 98 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, including in the Perm region .

📊 Strategic Impact: ‘Long-Range Sanctions’

The attack on Perm is part of an escalating Ukrainian campaign targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure deep inside its territory.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized these strikes as a new phase in Ukraine’s strategy to limit Russia’s ability to wage war by denying it crucial oil revenue:

“The straight-line distance is more than 1,500 kilometers. We will continue to increase these ranges.”

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian forces have conducted at least 18 strikes against Russian oil infrastructure and at least 41 strikes against Russian military assets in at least 19 Russian federal subjects in April 2026 alone . The ISW notes that Ukraine is successfully exploiting overstretched Russian air defenses and the large attack surface of Russia’s deep rear .
