JUST IN: UK says Lebanon should be included in the US-Israeli ceasefire with Iran

London – April 5, 2026 | Reflecto News

The United Kingdom has called for Lebanon to be explicitly included in any future ceasefire agreement between the United States, Israel, and Iran, arguing that a comprehensive regional deal must address Hezbollah’s role and prevent the conflict from spilling over into Lebanese territory.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy made the remarks during a briefing in London, stating that excluding Lebanon would leave a dangerous gap that could undermine any truce and allow proxy groups to reignite hostilities.

UK Position

Lammy emphasized:

“A durable ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran cannot ignore Lebanon. Hezbollah remains a major destabilizing force. Any agreement must include clear commitments to prevent cross-border attacks from Lebanese soil and to support Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.”

The UK’s call aligns with its broader diplomatic efforts, including plans to host military planning talks with over 40 countries on securing the Strait of Hormuz after the war ends. Britain has positioned itself as a mediator seeking a wider regional de-escalation framework.

Context in the Conflict

The statement comes as ceasefire talks between the US and Iran remain stalled:

  • Positions are still described as “too far apart,” according to The Wall Street Journal, with Iran rejecting key parts of the U.S. 15-point peace proposal.
  • The White House has warned that by Tuesday the world will know whether strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges will proceed.
  • Iran has retaliated with drone strikes on Kuwait (injuring 15 Americans) and continues to urge civilians to form human chains around power plants.
  • Hezbollah in Lebanon has remained largely on the sidelines during the current phase of fighting but maintains a large arsenal of rockets and missiles aimed at Israel.

Including Lebanon would likely require addressing Hezbollah’s disarmament or at least a verifiable cessation of attacks on Israel from Lebanese territory — issues that have proven difficult in past negotiations.

Broader Diplomatic Landscape

  • Pope Leo XIV used his Easter message to urge those with the power to unleash wars to “choose peace.”
  • New Zealand called U.S. threats against Iranian civilian infrastructure “unhelpful.”
  • The UK’s initiative on post-war Hormuz security is moving forward without direct U.S. participation, signaling growing European desire for independent regional arrangements.

Analysts see the UK’s push to include Lebanon as an attempt to prevent the current conflict from morphing into a multi-front war involving Hezbollah, which could rapidly destabilize the entire Levant.

Reflecto News will continue monitoring reactions from Washington, Tehran, Jerusalem, and Beirut, as well as any progress toward a ceasefire framework. With the Tuesday deadline on potential U.S. infrastructure strikes approaching, the inclusion of Lebanon could become a key sticking point in negotiations.
