JUST IN: RSF Drone Strike on Sudan’s al-Jabalain Hospital Kills 10, Including 7 Medical Staff and Hospital Leadership

JUST IN: The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a drone strike on al-Jabalain Hospital in Sudan’s White Nile State, killing at least 10 people — including 7 medical staff and the hospital’s director general — while a separate incident saw RSF forces storm a hospital in El Daein, East Darfur, highlighting a disturbing pattern of attacks on healthcare facilities amid Sudan’s ongoing civil war.

KHARTOUM / WHITE NILE STATE – On April 2, two RSF drones struck al-Jabalain Hospital, hitting the operating theater and maternity ward during a children’s vaccination campaign. The Sudanese Ministry of Health and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) confirmed the deaths of 10 people, including seven medical and administrative staff. Among the victims was the hospital’s director general, Dr. Hamid Suleiman, who was killed while performing surgery. At least 19–22 others were injured, with many transferred to facilities in Kosti for treatment.

This attack is the latest in an intensifying drone war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, with both sides increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure.

Separate Incident in El Daein

In a related development, the Sudan Doctors Network reported that RSF forces stormed al-Usra (Family) Hospital in the Al-Nazir neighborhood of El Daein, East Darfur. Medical staff were reportedly assaulted, and equipment was destroyed or looted during the raid. This follows earlier strikes on El Daein Teaching Hospital, which killed dozens (including children and health workers) in March.

Pattern of Attacks on Healthcare

These incidents underscore a deeply concerning trend in Sudan’s conflict, which erupted in April 2023 between the SAF and RSF:

  • Deliberate or reckless targeting of hospitals violates international humanitarian law and may constitute war crimes.
  • Healthcare facilities have been repeatedly hit, looted, or occupied, severely limiting access to care for millions displaced by the war.
  • MSF and other aid groups have condemned the strikes as “unacceptable assaults on healthcare” that endanger both patients and staff.

The White Nile and Darfur regions have seen some of the heaviest fighting, with drone strikes becoming more frequent as both sides seek to gain tactical advantages.

Humanitarian Crisis

Sudan’s civil war has already caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters, with massive displacement, famine risks, and collapsed healthcare systems. Attacks like these further erode the limited remaining medical capacity, putting vulnerable populations — including children receiving vaccinations — at even greater risk.

International calls for accountability and protection of civilians and medical facilities are growing, though enforcement remains challenging amid the fragmented conflict.

Reflecto News will continue monitoring developments in Sudan, including any responses from the RSF, SAF, or international organizations, and the broader humanitarian impact.
