Mohammad Rizwan has answered his omission from Pakistan’s Test squad with an unbeaten double hundred in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, scoring 200 not out for Peshawar Region Blues against Faisalabad Region in Abbottabad.

The 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batter came in at 127-3 on the first day and batted for 252 balls, hitting 35 fours and a six. He resumed on the second day on 111 and added a 246-run stand for the fourth wicket with Najab Khan, who made 133, before an unbroken 130-run partnership with Muhammad Haris took Peshawar to 503-4 and a declaration.

It was Rizwan’s 16th century in first-class cricket and only his second double hundred, his first since scoring 224 in 2014.

Rizwan was left out of Pakistan’s squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins on November 9 in Rawalpindi. He had a poor series in England, scoring 61 runs in four innings, and was one of seven players sent home after the defeat in the second Test. He is also the subject of an ongoing probe by Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Since his debut in 2016, Rizwan has played 47 Tests for Pakistan, scoring 2,682 runs at an average of 37.77, with three centuries and 14 half-centuries.
