Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing to an end one of the most decorated international careers in the history of the sport.

The 41-year-old confirmed the decision in a five-minute video posted on Instagram on November 5, saying: “Today I finish my walk on the pitch with the national team.”
Ronaldo leaves international football with 234 caps and a world-record 146 goals for Portugal, both of them world records. He captained Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 and won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and again in 2025.
His final appearance for Portugal came in the 1-0 win over Wales in September 2026.
While his international career is over, his club career continues with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
The announcement closes the international chapter of a career that made Ronaldo Portugal’s record appearance-maker and record goalscorer, and one of the most recognisable footballers the game has ever seen.
